It was Children's Day. Ten-year old Obanor who was an orphan was urged by his poor grandmother to join other children
in the stadium. There, the legendary Mother of Africa told the story of Jite, the miracle baby. The boy was crippled
at birth. But thanks to his mother's dogged faith, he regained the use of his legs. More than that, he used the
once-crippled feet to win honours for his community in the Shell Oil-Communities Football Competition....
To conclude, Obanor was miraculously adopted by the Mother of
Africa, afterthe symbolic frying of ice cream in the stadium.
For Obanor and indeed the community, it was the happiest day ever.
But fate played a fast one on them before sunset.... And the happiest day suddenly turned into the saddest day.

A TASTE OF COLLEGE LIFE is a simple refreshing story that keeps reminding those of us who are adults of what we were
as teenagers at school, while today's teenagers are also made to realise the legitimacy of their current experiences.
The story is bound to bring out the pains of missed opportunities in those who did not have a real taste of college life.
More so, as Kife--the central character in the novel--reminds each of us of some parts of ourselves which we would rather
never forget.--Professor Festus Iyayi(Commonwealth Writers' Award Winner, 1988)
Madam Oke Oyoma was an acclaimed nationalist. She contributed immensely to Nigeria's independence.
She also doled out money freely to enable several African countries fight for independence. And for this reason, she
was fondly called the MOTHER OF AFRICA.
In spite of her reputation, she hardly visited her home town. Worse
still, she did nothing to develope her people. In summary, Mama Africa's charity did not begin at home. Whereas
she was a "mother" to strangers, she was a stranger to her own people.
But one day, a mysterious old man visited her and told her that life is
all about THE GREAT CONTEST. This visit had a dramatic impact on her. And from that day, she resolved to
go back to her roots and improve the lot of her people--especially the children.
Ema Erhe succeeds in creating one of the most loved characters in children's fiction. Madam Oke Oyoma can
easily be identified with, and the reader finds himself loving, and talking kindly about her.
CRYING VOR NOTHING is the story of an old man, who was orphaned at an early age, when a thunderous night storm
brought down his home. When he married, his wife died at childbirth.
Rather than allow his misfortune to deter him, he grew to become a loving, kind-hearted man, and gained the charity of
the villagers. He devoted his life to all and sundry, becoming a friend , teacher, counsellor and arbiter, especially
to children. In return, every child resolved to care lovingly for him at adulthood.
But death struck unexpectedly. Papa Nothing died suddenly, and all the villagers were thrown into confusion and
sorrow. Since then, children have not been able to stop crying for Nothing.
The first thing that crosses your mind when you see this book is: "Do children cry for nothing?" But by the
time you finish reading this book, you'll understand how. 'CRYING FOR NOTHING' is a very interesting
and touching story. It's one of the best children's story books ever to have emerged from Africa. (E-book price: $2.0)
